Grandvilliers is a town located in the Oise region of Northern France about 90km north of Paris.
It has a population of approximately 3,000 people and is set in a rural area of France.
The History of Grandvilliers
Grandvilliers was established by Evrard de Monchy, the Abbot of Saint Lucien of Beauvais in the 12th Century. In 1346 the town was used by Edward III of England as a stopover en route to the Battle of Crecy.
In 1680 a fire engulfed the town and destroyed many of the huts and church, In the Battle of France in 1940 the town was again badly damaged due to bombings on the 6th, 7th and 8th of June 1940. the Town hall was destroyed, but was rebuild in 1956. The town was liberated on August 30th 1944 by British Troops of the 44th RTR.
